Wind And Direction.
The wind blows from the north almost all year. The Nile flows north. So a dahabiya sails south with the wind, from Luxor to Aswan. Going north, the current helps.
- Going south: sails catch the north wind.
- Going north: the river current helps.
- No wind: an engine or a tugboat takes over.
- Our boats: Nawara sails with her engine in reserve. Nile Divine and Nile Majestic are towed by a tugboat that holds the engine away from the cabins.
- The wind decides some of the day. Wind changes day to day, so sailing time is never promised.

On 2 August 2027, a total solar eclipse crosses Luxor. Totality lasts about 6 minutes 22 seconds. Maximum is around 1:05 pm local time. It is also a very hot month, with Luxor highs near 104°F (40°C).
