Dive Insurance Policy

Dive Insurance is mandatory for all guests who plan to scuba dive during the cruise.

Your policy must provide full coverage for the entire duration of your cruise — valid for scuba diving in Egypt and including emergency medical treatment, evacuation, and hyperbaric chamber coverage.

For All Guests

We strongly recommend that all guests purchase comprehensive Travel Insurance to protect both your trip investment and your personal health. These policies provide valuable coverage in case of unexpected events or changes to your travel plans.

Protect Your Trip Payment

If you need to cancel — illness, injury, family emergency — travel insurance is the only way to get your money back. Boreas programs are non-refundable once the cancellation period passes. Without travel insurance, your full booking payment is at risk.

🕐 Buy your policy at the time of booking — not after. Most trip cancellation and CFAR benefits only apply if purchased within 10–21 days of your first payment.

Minimum Dive Insurance Requirements

All guests participating in scuba diving on board Boreas must hold valid dive insurance that meets the minimum requirements below. Policies are verified at check-in — no exceptions.

Your policy must confirm all of the following
Valid for scuba diving in Egypt — not all policies cover Egypt; verify explicitly with your insurer
Covers the full duration of your cruise — from check-in to departure, Saturday to Saturday
Emergency medical treatment for diving accidents
Emergency evacuation coverage — from vessel and from Egypt
Hyperbaric chamber treatment coverage — for decompression sickness treatment
30m depth limit minimum — Red Sea dives regularly exceed 30m; confirm your policy has no depth cap or covers 40m+

Travel Insurance — For Every Guest on Board

Whether you are diving or not, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for all Boreas guests. Egypt is a long-haul destination for most of our guests. Trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and travel disruptions happen — and without coverage, the cost falls entirely on you.

For all guests

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR)

Consider adding a CFAR upgrade to your policy. This extends protection beyond standard cancellation terms and allows you to cancel for circumstances not covered by standard policies — including personal reasons not recognised by your insurer.

For diving guests

Liveaboard Rider

If you are joining a dive cruise, look for a Liveaboard Rider in your policy. This covers circumstances specific to liveaboard travel that standard travel insurance may exclude — including missed departures, on-board medical incidents, and early disembarkation.

Inform the Boreas dive team of your insurance provider and policy number at check-in. This is part of our standard safety briefing.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Insurance Questions

Guests who arrive without valid dive insurance will not be permitted to scuba dive. You are welcome to join all other on-board activities — snorkelling, spa, sea pool, wellness programme, and all deck activities. We recommend purchasing DiveAssure or DAN coverage before departure.

Yes — DAN insurance is fully accepted and meets Boreas’s minimum dive insurance requirements, provided your policy covers Egypt, includes hyperbaric chamber treatment, and is valid for the full duration of your cruise. Bring documentation confirming this.

Many standard travel insurance policies exclude scuba diving or impose depth limits — often 30 metres or less. Check your policy documents carefully. If your policy excludes diving or has depth restrictions, you need additional dive-specific coverage. DiveAssure and DAN both offer standalone dive insurance that can supplement an existing travel policy.

Dive insurance is not required for non-divers. However, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering Egypt, medical treatment, and emergency evacuation for all guests regardless of activity. The Red Sea is a remote location — medical costs without coverage can be significant.

The nearest certified hyperbaric facility is the El Quseir Hyperbaric Centre, approximately 60km from Port Ghalib Marina. The Boreas crew are trained in diving emergency protocols and will coordinate transfer and contact your insurance provider in the event of a medical emergency on board.

Yes. Dive insurance can be purchased online up to the day of departure. We recommend purchasing as early as possible — some trip cancellation benefits only apply if insurance is purchased within a set number of days of your initial booking. For CFAR protection, most policies require purchase within 10–21 days of your first payment.
